How is Assisted Living different from independent living?
Assisted Living offers assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting as well as monitoring medications. The Mark Wentworth Home offers three meals a day and snacks are available whenever you wish. Assisted living provides a more supportive environment than independent living, while still offering its residents independence to match their capabilities. Many people who at first think independent living is right for them, come to believe that Assisted Living will offer them the best opportunity to age successfully over the long run.
Who owns the Mark Wentworth Home?
The Mark Wentworth Home is an independent nonprofit, charitable foundation run by a Board of Trustees made up of citizens from the community.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract to become a
Mark Wentworth Home resident?
No. The Mark Wentworth Home is a rental community, and residency is on a month-by-month basis. You do not have to purchase your residence nor do you have to sign a long-term lease.
How are the fees determined at the Mark Wentworth Home and will they increase?
The monthly service charge includes three meals a day plus snacks, routine maintenance, housekeeping, utilities, basic cable TV and 24 hour staffing. There is a deposit for placement on our waiting list Fees are generally reviewed annually and may increase 4-7 % or according to the rate of inflation. A 30 day written notice will be provided before any change is made in the fees. Please contact our marketing department for additional information.
Do you provide local transportation?
The Mark Wentworth Home provides scheduled transportation to local destinations. In addition, for a fee, private transportation to local physician offices can be arranged. We are also located on the City of Portsmouth Senior Transport bus route.
May I bring my car?
Yes. We offer assigned parking and do our best to provide you with a reserved space. In addition our maintenance will provide snow removal for your car in the winter months.
Do I keep my local physician?
Yes, you may. If you are from out-of-state we will be happy to suggest some local physicians. We are located near Portsmouth Regional Hospital and one hour from Boston.
Can I control the temperature of my apartment?
Yes, each apartment has individual controls for air conditioning and heat.
Do I bring my own furnishings?
Yes, you are encouraged to bring as many of your own belongings as possible. We want you to feel at home. The Mark Wentworth Home provides you with a floor plan so you can plan what you would like to bring.
Are there any restrictions to live at the Mark Wentworth Home?
Since smoking is detrimental to everyone's health, we have designated our entire campus to be smoke-free.
Do you allow pets?
Small, well-mannered pets are welcome at the Mark Wentworth Home. There are some restrictions on the size and number of pets you may have. However, each resident's situation will be assessed individually.
